Let's go over the basics of the trip. A group of nurses, nursing students, nurse practitioners, and nurse practitioner students all go to the Dominican Republic and bring a bunch of medical supplies, set up shop at a different site every day for two weeks and just see patients. It's a very similar mobile health model to the company I work at in the US.
Our first day we spent at a hostel in the capital and we are about to head out to our first area of the island. Here we will reorganizing our supplies and get ready to see the patients.
I've already done and seen so much here and I've only been here for a few hours. What I'm most amazed by is how quickly my Spanish is coming back. I'm considered one of the Spanish speakers and the staff at restaurants usually identify me to speak with them. Now we are eating breakfast and getting a little pep talk from our leader .
Moving forward I'm not sure what my internet access is going to be like but I'm going to try and at least blog retroactively. I may try to write another blogger-type reflective post on the first day of the trip and my culture shock getting here but for now I should finish breakfast and get ready to get in the bus.
